I am a British citizen but hold a kenyan passport. I was granted indefinite stay in 1997 is there a quicker way to gaining a UK passport without the one and half year wait for a naturalisation certificate.

If you are a British citizen you are entitled to a British passport. If you, as you suggest, are awaiting a naturalisation certificate then I suggest that you are not a British citizen yet and therefore are not entitled to a British passport.
MY Pal Jim Stewart lives in Nairobi...he HAD to become a Kenyan to stay out there... ask him if he will give you his defunct British passport... its no longer any good to Jimmy...
