Frankly, I would say that �1k is over the top. I would shop around if you are not confident enough to do it yourself (remember, you will need to have your LPA certified). I would think you can get one done for less than �200.
Granted a grand is OTT, but remember, solicitors have certain compliance regulations that the internet just does not have. Furthermore, if it all goes wrong a solicitor has PI insurance that will put it right (or pay damages) - the internet will not.
As for people making money out of others' misery, well, my plumber charged me the going rate to fix my boiler when it broke, but no one considers that is wrong. My gran had a private hip replacement, but that also is not wrong. So why lawyers?
