penalties for un taxed car on road

i had a car parked on the road near mine which was un-taxed but it was SORN and i thought it was ok but i got a ticket and now iam in court,what are the penalties for this,thay can't give me any point's on my licence can they,i really thought it would be ok.

Why on earth did you think it would be okay to park your car on the road, when you signed a statement to say that it would be kept off the road?

" The maximum penalty for making false declaration by declaring the vehicle as SORN when the vehicle is actually used or kept on a public highway is �5000 and two years imprisonment"

Yeah, it is a bit silly to declare it off road when it wasn't at all. I suppose worst case scenario they can seize the car, and if fines etc, aren't paid, destroy it.

Bit of advice though - I had an untaxed car for the last month (basically I was using up the tax on my current car and then taxing this one) so I kept it in my pub car park for the duration. The guvnor didn't mind and it was legally off road.
