some attempted to fine me for picking someone up from the "dropoff zone" at stanstead airport, claiming very vigorously that it was "LAW". he backed down real fast when I pointed out that basically the idea was to make it more exspensive to go to the "drop off zone" than the exspensive car park. what "LAW" is there to stop me from picking someone up from the drop off area ? I'm very suspicious of the lagality of the fining as he backed down so fast when I calmly objected (yes its a good idea to remain calm and especially as calm as possible when confronting a coloured person next I would probably have been accused of racism)

I don't have a problem at Stanstead. I regularly pick up a friend from there. If his plane is due at 10.15, I arrive about 10.20, drive into short stay, park the car, meet him, return to the car, pay my quid (or however much it costs, i don't know, but it isn't much) and that's it. I've never had a problem there. When I take him back, I drop him off at the drop off zone and am there for seconds.

I have never attempted to pick up from the drop off zone or vice versa. Perhaps its just me.
Thunderchild, times must be really hard for you, by the sound of it. Your journey is the distanceof Stansted to Irchester, and you object to paying what turns out to be 1 to park in the 'drop off zone' ? Better not get you on to the cost of parking at a hospital!

Was this man in uniform? If he wasn't ,you have some grounds for doubt and for complaining ( I see that someone says there are 'wardens' in which case some uniform would be desirable, if only to stop arguments and people driving off )

Isn't BAA owned by a Spanish company? Does that worry you as well ?
Since the 1950s, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white bus passenger, non-violent civil disobedience has been established as a morally acceptable way to protest against unfair laws. On the other hand, since the dawn of time, there have been freeloaders who think it is acceptable to get something for nothing at the expense of the rest of us, then whinge and complain when they are challenged.
