Company rights to check your Driving Licence

As a company car driver I am used to providing a copy of my licence every twelve months. However the company is now utilising a third party company to do do whatever checks with DVLA every year. Of course this requires the Drivers signature as permission. Now- I know there is a lot of info that DVLA holds. Does a company have a legal right to demand that you sign up to this?

I'm not sure what your issue is. It seems to me that he company is simply getting someone else to carry out the checks on its behalf. If you want to continue to use a company car I suggest you need to give permission for your licence to be checked. I can't see the company outsourcing the checking of all licences except yours and then doing a special in-house check for yours.

Companies are doing this because some people report their driving licence as lost when they know they are going to get points or a ban. They are issued with a new licence and retain the old one.
They send the new one back for the points to be added, and show the employer the old, clean licence.

An employer has to be sure his employees are road legal and insured and checking directly with DVLA is the best way to do it.
