Dispute with ISP
I have a long running problem with a well known ISP. I have tried on numerous occassions to cancel my account with them . Unbeknown to me although the monthly payments come out of my bank account the actual internet account is in my ex husbands name we divorced over 6 years ago and I have no contact details for him.
I have explained this to the internet company who will not allow me to cancel the account as it is in his name they say they must speak to him They will not put me through to a manager to make a complaint as I am not the account holder. The whole situation is bizarre to say the least.
To cut a long story short I decided to cancel the direct debit as I thought this was all I could do, this was 5 months ago and I have heard nothing from them so thought all was ok .Today I received a letter from a dedt collection agency addressed to my ex I opened it and it's for the oustanding money owed to the ISP company even though I cancelled the DD they are still it appears charging for the ISP provision that I have not used for 5 months on the account they wouldn't let me close!
It's my ex they are chasing for the debt, so I called the debt collection agency and told them we I divorced and he has not lived at my address for over 7 years .
Is there anything else I should be doing?

They sent the letter to your ex. The fact he doesn't live their any more is not your problem, but theirs. Any future mail should be returned to them, preferably unopened and marked 'not at this address'. Personally I would let them take all the steps they wish - they have no case against you.
