Is it legal to ban smoking in hotel rooms or is it up to the individual hotel?

I was under the impression that it was a total ban and they had no choice??

Legality stops for proprietor once notices are in place. Hotel rooms are rented so occupant is technically at fault - if caught by law enforcers.

Labour MPs were given a free vote amid fears they could rebel against plans to exempt private clubs and non-food pubs.

The total ban will extend to all enclosed areas except private homes, residential care homes, hospitals, prisons and hotel bedrooms.
