Trees on council-owned land
I have just bought a new house and there is a tall conifer hedge which runs along the outside of my boundary on council-owned land. I suspect the hedge was planted by previous owners of my house. The hedge is very tall and blocks the sunlight during the day and street lighting at night so I would really like them to be removed or significantly reduced in size. Who is responsible for these trees assuming that they were not planted by the council?

If the trunks are in your property boundary - they are your responsibility but you must also check with the council before chopping them down, depending how long they have been there and what type of hedge it is. time consuming it may be, but ask before you do anything.
