How can I choose and use a satnav

I've never had one. I'm an old fuddy duddy who never uses her mobile phone a doesn't know or wish to know about bluetooth.
And I can't read my car clock while I'm wearing my driving glasses, so I need something simple.

I think I might have thought TomTom 530 would be good, but can't remember why.

I drive alone and tend to get lost (and panic about being in the wrong lane in towns). Then when I'm lost I've no idea where I am, so I can't find myself again.

And I forgot to say that, although I don't want to pay for fancy features that I won't use, the price is less important than getting one that will do a good job without causing frustration.

You are obviously a young thing who doesn't know what happens to aging eyes. My driving glasses allow me to see things at a distance - i.e. the road and traffic. I don't want to have to put my reading glasses on to fiddle with a satnav or read a map.

A tomtom can be set up in the house on your pc, so when you connect it in the car there is no need to fiddle with it, just listen to the verbal instructions. The volume can be set to very loud indeed.

For the return journey, it is easy to press a couple of large on screen icons to get you 'home'.

I would recommend the tomtom.

i use a TomTom GO510, brillianty peice of kit, although it now needs map updates. You cant just listen, sometimes the instructions dont make sense without looking at the screen...when you eventually buy one you will know what i mean.
I have mine stuck at the top of the windscreen to the right this enables me to look over my glasses at the display
( i need glasses for driving but not reading)

TWR I panic if I get lost when I'm driving and I'm 27. Loads of people do,doesn't mean we shouldn't be driving.

I've got a Tom Tom but it's an old one - Go 500. When I first got it put in postcode for somewhere I know and used it to guide me there so just so I could get used to the voice.

My dad bought a Garmin Nuvi I think it's called?

Like you, he is a bit of a technophobe too :o)

Within a few days he got the hang of it pretty quick!
It's quite simple to use, and has plain large text on it too
I can't remember how much he paid for it, i think it was around a �100
