I have been asked another question, What are the health and safety regulations for ladder use ? Any help would be appreciated.

The official advice is that ladders are for access only, and not to be worked from. As you can imagine, for a small builder (in all respects!!), this makes life quite difficult as the only other option is expensive scaffolding
Also it should be out from the wall 1m for every 4m high and there should be 4 to 5 rungs above the working platform.

Ladders also shoul be tied top and bottom to prevent movement. you should have 3 points of contact with the ladder at all times.
What I cant get my head around is HSE say's "any hight is hight" meaning I can't work at any hight without hand rails, hard hat, ect.

So how come a stage has no hand rails at the front and I have never seen an actor with a hard hat with a "high vis" jacket on?

and also what about a train platform when the train is not there!! no hand rails, hard hats, ect?
