Single parents are not required to be available for work in order to get benefits until their youngest child is 12. At that stage the DWP will expect them to take some steps to find work that fits with their child care. Once the children are 16 they are required to sign on like anyone else.

The age (of the child) should be lowered to 5, and could be even lower.
Can anyone tell me why single parents on benefits have the luxury of being allowed to stay at home with their children whilst other parents work to pay for, not only their own roof over their heads and those of their children, but for the heads of other people's children and the parents? Where is the policy that allows that?
Can anyone explain why I and every other tax payer are forced to pay for the life of single parents on benefit?
Why do working single parents have to pay for them too?
