Cost of a solicitor for EPA
I have downloaded EPA forms from the internet and am waiting to see if a consultant will explain the proceedure to my father who cannot write and has lost much of his power of speech- if this can be done it will take another 6 weeks for registration.
Does anyone know how much it would cost if I employed a solicitor to do this and would it take less time? thanks, wired

Do you mean a medical consultant? Why would they be advising your dad on law matters and procedure for lpa's?
i am very concerned you are talking of EPA forms as since 2007, it's LPA (lasting power of attourney) forms you have to fill in. if you want peace of mind it's being done properly, i'd hire a solicitor. There are 2 types - 1 for property and money and 1 for personal welfare decisions (including medical type decisions

A solicitor will be no quicker but possibly less likely than you to make mistakes on the form.
DIY is feasible if you are careful and understand what you are doing.
And take that 6 weeks with a pinch of salt. It doesn't include the time taken to record it in their system in the first place and make and send out copies at the end.
My main worry in your case would be your father's capacity - if the consultant decides he's not capable it's a different and more complex set of forms and higher fees.
