Think about a payg sim card - no huge bills can be racked up.

It's a shame she has a contract phone if she is not responsible with her possessions - a cheapie pay as you go would be more suitable.

The air time provider you have the contract with may well provide an insurance which will cover this but you need to ask them very specific questions and will probably be horrified at the monthly cost.
Personally I would use the contract phone myself or give it to my husband or even put it in the cupboard and get her a pay as you go phone - youngsters run up some horrendous bills on these thingsand I dont think you can ask the airtime provider to cap the bill - my son once spent over 150.00 in a month - needless to say we sent him out to work and took the phone off him - it was some time ago and I know the air time "bundles" are very generous now but do be vigilant :-).
