If you have a ticket online through your National Lottery account (and I think you need to have one to buy online) any wins will automatically be credited to your account.

I've been buying my lottery tickets like this for a few years now and wins are always quickly credited - you can then transfer the money to your bank account.
But don't forget that you have to contact the National Lottery should your win be "large" enough.

See the section headed

I have got an on-line account with National Lottery and I received a message from them saying that most countries have different laws regarding gambling on line. Any tickets bought on-line from one of these countries will not be honoured. I would recommend that you buy your tickets before you go away.
Yes - I've now received one of those emails too. They have changed the conditions.

You can't buy tickets for draws after your existing ticket runs out. I buy 8 weeks at a time but if I'm gonig to be on holiday when my exisint ticket runs out, I can't renew it.
