i live above some shops and when i go down stairs to go out i pass the back of the shops. the path i use is my right of way. after being away for a few weeks when i came back one of the shops has put in a rear fire door were there was a window , it has fire door on the door. but the shop keeper opens the door so it is obstructing my right of way ..and he props it open with a box he uses the door all the time going to and from the shop. taking things in through the fire door. i complained to the landlords agents and they say its o.k even though no planning permission was applied for. surely this is not right. if i am walking along my right of way and he opens the door he will smash right into me. no body at the council wants to help me they just keep fobbing me off . i,m at the end of my tether. any ideas of what to do next
you could contact your local Fire Station for advice re propping open fire doors. they are meant to be kept shut. they may be able to advise you re Health and Safety issues, but hopefully will come out and take a look for themselves.
Contact your Council's planning enforcement team as the door required planning permission, and the Building Control department re the fire door. Also if the footpath is designated Highway, call the Council's Highways Team.
