Does anyone here put away the box of an electrical appliance just in case you have to return it to the store during its guarantee period? I have about 20 boxes folded away at home, for toaster, kettle, water filter container etc...as I'm scared that the shop (usually Argos) will not want to take it back and give me a refund without the box. Am I right in doing this? Has anyone had a problem replacing their faulty item because it has been returned without the box?
i don't think the box is important from the buyers point of view, but if the item has to go back to the manufacturers, the boxes sometimes have bar codes or stickers on them, which give information as to which depot they came from, and could possibly help to trace where the problem started.
Also, the boxes can be used to send the faulty item back in. They've been designed to hold whatever perfectly, which saves clumsy wrapping up - and hence further damage.
you only need the box if you find the product unsuitable in the first few days for return they might give you exchange or refund. if it breaks down after a week or so you dont have to have the box for its return

my husband is the same, we have a loft full of boxes too.
it drives me nuts everytime I go up there and he holds the ladder so I cant sneak the boxes past him [ he cant use a ladder anymore due to disability].
Personally I am thinking fire hazard !
