rent.

I'm moving from a double room/double bed to a single room/single bed.

The reason is because I was going to be moving out and my landlady has got another girl for my room and has seen it and paid the deposit and is moving in next month. Then I decided I wanted to stay and so I need to have the other room in the house which is a much smaller room with a single bed.

I don't want to seem like I'm pushing my luck asking for reduction in rent because I feel landlady has been quite good to let me pay by housing benefit anyway. Some people are telling me it would not be pushing my luck and I should ask for a reduction.

What would you do?

its irrelevant how much rent you pay because it will be paid by housing benefit. you need not bother mentioning it

Have you moved already?

Do you have to pay the rent until the housing benefit comes through?

Sometimes what hun?

Yes I have to pay the rent til the housing benefit comes through.

I phoned up to apply but not sure yet if I have to fill in forms etc. but will find out tomorrow when I go to the yob centre.

I hope it comes through quickly as my money won't last longer than 2 x rent pays if that.

It is a bit hit and miss though as I left my job - if they decide I didn't have a sufficient reason to leave job they could reduce benefit or maybe even stop it.

I don't know what they class as a sufficient reason.
There's no harm in asking,Karma.
Don't you think you should have thought of all this before giving up your job! You fill in the forms at the job centre and it should take 3 - 4 weeks to come through if you are eligible.
you left on a whim karma, in this climate where people are struggling to find work they may see your actions as foolhardy.

lucky you didnt go on that holiday eh ..
The question you just ask might be better put elsewhere karma. It use to be that if you made yourself unemployed then you got different benefits. Not sure now though.

Housing benefit takes about 4 months to come through.

bleedin hell I don't mike life easy for myself!!!
Thanks xx
I should have said up to 4 months....
the yob centre isn't open tomorrow. I'be been the the yob centre today (for the first time in my life!) for my initial registration and I've applied for housing benefit and council tax benefit as well as the unemployment benefit and it will all be through in 10days they said. I'm not waiting for the money as I get my redundanct payment at the end of the month and my notice and holiday pay, but as it is all less than 16K I still get benefit, which is good. It was very quiet in there too, and they were very nice, I even helped the advisor fill in her computer screen cos she was a rubbish typist and couldn;t spell for toffee

Ok x
Karma I think, you asked the other night if you should emigrate to find work.
My answer to you would be yes,try canada,or oz,both countrys are doing well,(no recession) as you are still young, you
should check it out.
She said I was well organised but if i didn't get a job in 13 weeks i had to start l;ooking at other possibilities, I asked her how long she'd worked there and whether she liked her job and what she didn't like about it and where did she see herself working in 10 years time, she was really interesting .
she hasnt got any money noway, you need money to emigrate...
She must of got something cazzz.,otherwise she would'nt have asked.
she was going to fund an overseas trip with a credit card so I would say she has no money
Oh,well thats not a good idea.
I would move home as soon as possible as you planned to do. You clearly have no reason to stay. And yes, you're chancing your arm, I wouldn't be very impressed to have you as a tennant right now.
if i were your landlady i would be charging you more as you will be occupying more space in a single room.
