Thinking of installing Wood burner to replace coal fire

Please any advice/tips would be appreciated on wood burners
Also have heard this is very exspensive to fit?? Has anyone fitted a wood burner themselves??

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.We have 3 woodburners...1 cost £350...1 cost £550 and the double sided one cost £1600. As for fitting them all our chimneys are class 1 i.e.solid brick with no flu liner so the woodburners fitted fine after taking out the old fireplaces. I re pointed the old brickwork after I gave it a good clean,fitted stone hearths to suit.You may need a steel register plate above the burner to accommodate the flue.Then get a HETAS approved contractor to check things out for you. Total price depends on your d.i.y. skills and type of flu in place. If in doubt get the HETAS man in first. ps they eat a tree a night between them...............but there carbon neutral...........and you can cook stew on them.Good luck..regards Ron
