hotel refund

i booked and payed for a hotel room for the night over the phone for myself and my family for a weeks time.my employer has told me now that i can not have the time off.am i entitled to a refund if i give the hotel notice.

It would depend on the type of booking you made - if they have a website check their small print. They usually have different rates, the dearer ones can be cancelled and are usually not paid until your stay, the cheaper rates are paid upfront and you get no refund if you cancel. But like I say, check with the hotel as they're all different, even if they won't refund you they may allow you to amend your dates for a small fee.
