Equity release - Can I represent myself?
As with a house purchase, where can complete the transaction oneself, is a solicitor a legal reuirement when effecting an equity release. The process looks straightforward to me, where there are no existing complicatons.

I can't find any law stipulating that only a qualified lawyer can register any equity release provder's Charge against a property. Why should I fork out around £500 for the 5 minutes it will take some solicitor's secretary to fill out a form CH2 online. I spoke to my equity provder and they waffled on about the industry's recommendations that people understood the ramiifiations of equity release "as when you buy a house". What's to understand? It's a financial contract. It's not rocket science. Many people can and do effect their own house purchase these days. Another fine example of the legal profession's obfuscation in order to pocket shedloads of money for sweet FA.
