If an employer (other than as below) asks you a direct question [e.g. Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence?] you're allowed to 'answer accordingly' (i.e. lie and say 'No'). The same applies to indirect questions, where a truthful answer might give away your conviction.
However some types of employment are exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. They are principally jobs working with, or alongside, children or vulnerable adults. (Jobs related to the 'administration of justice' are also exempt). So if, for example, you applied for a job as a teacher, school caretaker, nurse, hospital porter or care worker you would be required to disclose your conviction.

no nosha it was just a sales job 10 k a year. mine was a bit different as in interview i did say i have a convicton but did not state what it was for (5 years ago i stole 4 phones from a shop i used to work in. stupid i know.) so my charge was not fully declaring a conviction to an employer. only workrd there for 9 weeks then left as i never got paid. 1 year later the police knocked. happy days.
i was first in country to be jailed for it but a guy has just got 3 years for not stating he had a conviction for ABH. he was only workin in scs as a salesman.
it's classed as fraud becasue they take into account how much wages hes earned while workin there and work on the basis that he wouldnt have not got the job if he had of declared conviction. so his could have been classed as a 80-90 grand fraud as he'd worked there a while. silly really.
