Family finds out that their child has been assaulted by a paedophile maths teacher, and instead of going to the police, they demand (and get) £18,000 from him, which they use as a deposit on a new home:

Surely this is blackmail?

I'd go further and say that it's tantamount to prostituting their child!!
Not to mention putting other children at risk by not reporting him.

I'm getting quite angry now...
That's pretty low.

This is pretty amazing (but in a bad way). If it is true (which it appears to be) then it sounds like the parents really should be charged.
omg. how can they ever justify their actions to that poor child?

its disgusting. And as said, how did they think that that would protect any child, theirs or any other?
I read this earlier this morning.........
..........and words are still beyond me to describe exactly how I feel about this.

I may have to get back to you.
Whilst agreeing that some action should be taken against the parents I hope they don't get locked up as who will then look after said child?
Hopefully someone that isn't so selfish and who would put their child before money...
With parents like these, the child might be better off with someone else. Unbelievable!

My guess is the child in question is probably an older teenager now, and hopefully well on the way to a position where he doesn't need his (toxic) parents around.

The offences were in 2004 and the bloke involved is a maths teacher - my understanding is that you only get subject specific teachers in secondary school (but I could be wrong).

By the way, I'm basing this on this report only. The parents haven't been charged or convicted, so you could argue that this was a clever ruse by the defendents lawyers...but somehow, I doubt it.

///Judge Ian Alexander said: "This case is very different to the one I thought it was. I am staggered. I have never come across this before and I am not sure how it affects the sentence. He has effectively been fined £18,000 outside of the judicial system"///

Looks on the face of it like it is accurate.
That story is horrific!!! Just horrific.. who I ask is the monster???
They surely have a duty to protect other children from future offences.. If my child was abused by him and it could have been avoided - imagine how angry you would be!!!
Scum..... and Scum..... both the lowlife Fluffing sleezeball that did it and the parents of he child, that have no shame at all..........beyond belief.......parents in name only.....Finance Specialists....sickens me to the stomach how people can do this sort of thing........ and live with it.
