How substantial is the sum that they are after? Could make a difference as to how persistent they may be and whether the costs of trying to enforce the debt are worth it for them, especially as you are abroad.

To clarify, if is wasn't for this company, would you ever have known about or received the inheritance I assume you subsequently did?

Might be worth googling the company as there may be internet forms covering other people's dealings with them in similar circumstances, definitely worth a try.
