DIvorce settlement

A friend has been told that his wife of only 18 months is entitled to a quarter of everything he has. I wonder if anyone could advise me as to whether this sounds normsl or whether he should find another lawyer. He is 59 years old and it hardly seems right that a woman he lived with for about 4 years and then was married to for a very short time should be entitled to so much of his life savings and investments. There are no children but he is the guardian for his disabled brother. The ex wife does not play any part in his brother's life now.

She has been living for free in a flat he owns while he lives in another town in another flat with his diabled brother. She brought absolutely nothing to the marriage. I am just hoping there is a lawyer out there who can tell me whether my frend needs to find a better lawyer or put up with losing a quarter of everything he has.
