Is it legal to fly the george cross flag outside your house during the world cup . I have been told that I could be prosecuted should I do so . That does not seem right

@dh001- I've not seen a link, but at the school where I work (in a very racially divided area) all the white kids seem to believe it and say their parents have told them about it.

Just a point of pedantry, bayliss, the flag you are talking about is not the George Cross flag. It is the flag of Saint George, the patron saint of England. It depicts a red cross (known as the cross of Saint George).

The George Cross (which I do not believe has an associated flag) is the highest civil decoration of the United Kingdom, the civilian equivalent of the Victoria Cross (VC) and the highest gallantry award for civilians.

Saint George’s Day is on April 23rd, but strangely I never see the flag flying then or on any other appropriate occasion. I only seem to see it when the English football team is involved in some sort of competition.

New Judge that is because that's the England Flag and is the one we need to use when we want to Support the England Football team, it's quite versatile isn't it?

Being Scottish I will keep out of the football conversation. I do, however, think that you should be able to fly your flags from your cars/homes etc.

I don't think people should be allowed to fly the St George flag... for no other reason than I'm Welsh, and we haven't been in the World Cup Finals since 1958!
