I was pulled over by the police for doing 98 on a motorway. They gave me a fixed notice penalty (£60 and 3 points) but I didn't have my counterpart so was given 7 days to produce it. I have searched everywhere but can not find it and have 4 days to do so. I'm not sure i'm going to be able to as I moved recently and have a feeling it my have been lost. I'm not sure what the best thing to do is. Obviously I'll keep trying to find the counterpart, but should I make the police aware I can't find it at this point? Should I contact the DVLA? What is likely to happen if I can't find it?

Won't do any harm will it. Contact DVLA and ask how long a replacement will take to be issued and pass this info on to the rozzers...
at long as your photo isn;t out of date you can order it online and they get sent out fairly quickly, you'll have a receipt that you can show the police
If you are unable to produce your licence within the required time the fixed penalty offer will be withdrawn and you will receive a summons for speeding.

You will need to go to court and plead guilty. You will have to explain to the Magistrates why you could not accept the fixed penalty. They MAY (but are not obliged to) impose a sentence equivalent to the fixed penalty. If they do not their sentencing guidelines for 98mph suggest a fine of a week’s net income (reduced by a third for a guilty plea). You will also be ordered to pay prosecution costs of about £80, and a Victim Surcharge of £15. You are also liable to receive 4 to 6 penalty points or face a disqualification of between 7 and 28 days.
