Lease agreement and legality of a text message?

My friend was going to move into an apartment at college. She had agreed with the other people she was going to move in with that as long as no illegal drugs were used she would be the third person to move in. Yesterday she caught them using an illegal substance and does not want to move in. There has been no lease agreement signed or any physical paper signed to agree on moving in. They say that they have a text message stating that she would move in and that they are going to sue. How legally binding is a text message? Do they have a case? And if so, what would her losses be?

Do not have any legal knowledge , but would think that as the circumstances of her moving in have changed radically , she is not moving in to the same situatuation. Therefore the text message of agreement, cannot apply as the situation is now different and breaches one of her requirements that there should be no illegal substances in the property.
Would feel inclined to let them have a go at suing if they wish . Good luck.
Sorry -- situation.
well a text message can be proved from coming from her phone, but can it be proved she wrote it? it wouldnt be signed or anything.
Too easy, if they sue tell them that she will report their illegal drugs activity. Check mate. Don't movbe in with this disresepectful sh0wer of dopehead sh1te, they'll never pay the rent anyway. Text message irrelevant but If anything it supports her case anyway.
Geezers absolutely right!

What are they going to do? sue? Don't make me laugh

Can you imagine it?

Even without the drugs aspect she's not signed any formal agreement.

What are they going to sue her for? - Breech of contract? where's the contract ?- Oh it's on my mobile phone!
If she hasn't signed a contract she has no obligations. Its not clear from your question if anyone has signed any kind of contract - what exactly do they think they are going to pursue her for?
