A friend of mine is facing eviction from the home he shared with his ex partner. She claims she left because of violence, which isn't true and can't be backed up by hospital or police records.
My friend thinks that if he gets character references from his friends, his ex will say things to the effect of "They buy drugs/borrow money/They're sleeping together."
Can she challenge character references if it goes as far as court?

I've rented quite a few properties over the last few years and through an estate agents, I have never been asked for a character reference. Even if someone does ask for a character reference why would the ex girlfriend even need to know about it, let alone makes accusations?
Oh, I might have misunderstood. Has the current landlord asked for a character reference for your friend and do the references depend on whether he gets to stay or not? Surely as long as the rent is being paid and the house is kept in good order, that would be all the landlord would be interested in?
