0845 telephone numbers

I've been looking at my telephone account on line and have an ordinary BT phone line and account (also Orange broadband). In particular I have looked at recent 0845 numbers which I have apparently dialled. Some of these numbers appear many times and I don't know whose numbers they are or how I come to use them so often. Perhaps there's a charge every time I go on line? Can anyone help please how I might establish who or what all the 0845 numbers connect with.

Many thanks for these promp answers. Have already found a couple on Google and grasscarp's reference looks interesting. I still have much 'research' to do so may not post here again for a while. Coldi.
