accused of stealing

Hello, I am just wondering if someone can tell me if this is ok. A friend was in work and a police officer came in (shop) and questioned her about stealing in a shop last week. She explained she picked an item up and put it down somewhere in the shop so he went to check but obviously that may have been moved in the last few days. My friend is totally devasted and upset. Can police come in to your place of work and question you like that or should they at least wait until you finish. She adamant she never stole anything. This could have put her job at risk.

How did the police know where to find her?

Not very clever of the plods to do that.
They should have considered the fact it was a shop .. and for the public, and treated it more considerately.
Probably worth a complaint.

So she went into a shop and picked something up, put it down and left, then later at work plod came along and questioned here at work which is in another shop, correct?

Well they can question her but usually in shoplifting cases the victim shop accosts the "theif" outside. I can't see any benefit to plod questioning someone later in another place, completely pointless.
