Lots of family law solicitors offer free half hour initial consultations so I'd advise your friend to find one of these and go as soon as possible. There are also hostels out there that can take mothers and their children BUT some of those aren't particularly nice (shared rooms etc). It would be far better - if she isn't intending to leave today - to start getting all the information together so that when the time comes, she knows exactly where she is going and what she needs to do. My limited knowledge of family law is that it isn't unusual for the mother (if the main carer) to be able to stay in the house following a divorce but there is a long way to go for your friend until that happens. I wish your friend the very best of luck.
