House with unwanted swimming pool

We are looking at moving house and have found quite a nice property. However it has a swimming pool in the back garden which we probably wouldn't really use. Is this going to be a hassle in the respect that we would have to spend time and money maintaining it anway?
Would it be sacriledge to just fill it in?

I don't think you will find it any more onerous to maintain the pool than other aspects of the garden and I think if you fill it in or get rid of it you may regret it . At least try and live with it first, doing what you need to do then if you can't get on with it take one of the other alternatives. (Judging by your handle I'd have thought you would love it!!!!)

I see you are quite young so a pool could be fun. Keep it for awhile. If you dont use it or find it too expensive to maintain then fill it in.

Unless you are one of those people who is quite happy breaking up the ice in order to go for a swim on New Year's Day, and are used to the effects of thermal shock, the pool water would have to be heated. Heating outdoor pools costs a small fortune. Keeping it and the water clean to acceptable hygeine standards would be practically a daily job. How about turning it into a sunken garden area instead?

they are expensive to run and in this country usually bally cold - there is also the problem of keeping it covered in the winter and making sure it is safe for visiting children and/or pets. Having had a pool for many years (overseas) I wouldn't have an outdoor pool in this country. As a matter of interest my last place that I rented for ten years had a huge indoor pool and the heating cost was around £40 per week in the winter.

If I had one in the garden as you have sunsocks i would be thinking of building a conservatory type building around it thus making the outdoor pool and indoor one.

empty it build some proper steps down into it and use it as a sunken patio lovely on a windy day as it will be sheltered inside it, being nosey were abouts have you seen this property as we have a place for sale near us with a swimming pool

yes as mickey says I would recommend getting a structure for over the pool, and it would mean maintenance would be less, and it would be somewhere to go a relax with a book by the pool and you might use it more to swim if it was more private and warm with a dressing area. You could put a gym in there too, sofa's, loungers, or a bar for parties or gatherings a def. feature

Exactly what...the? As well as being a great place to swim or hangout it could even improve the value of the house.

Put a floor and a roof over it, and use it as a wine cellar.

fill it full of gravel and if later you want it you will just have to empty it..a builder would do this quite cheap if he could reuse the gravel.. you would have to put a soak away in first though.

Fill it with eels - great business fresh or jellied.

Dont empty it and leave it, some pools need the weight of water for stability and you could find that the ground pressure will damage or even force it out of the ground.
It is now part of the property and part of the maintence of that property. If you are that uncertain, look for another property. Personally I dont think that a pool enhances the value of a property, as it reduces the number of possible purchasers.
