Can I grow mushrooms using dowels on leylandii stumps?

I have felled 2 leylandii and want to rot the stumps/trunks organically, and have read that growing mushrooms on tree stumps speeds the process up - but can mushrooms grow on this type of wood or does it have to be from deciduous trees?

Just how long do you think you will live to see tree trunks rot? The best way is to get them dug up or get a machine in to grind them to bits.

fungus will grow on the stumps, but not the mushrooms you get in the shops. i don't know where you would get spores from, or if they would be an edible type.

We got ours from here and used an old apple tree stump.
Not sure of the tannin/acidity levels of leylandii - probaaly a good idea to phone and ask where you get the spores/dowels from.
Ours grew very well in my son-in-law's wine cellar, and we still get them popping up even after three years!
