We've recently bought our 16yr old son a car in readiness for his 17th birthday in February as he wants to be driving asap...he's got his driving licence which becomes valid on his 17th birthday but we wondered if he would be allowed to drive his car on private car parks and private land before his 17th with his dad...or has he got to be patient...for once in his life! Thanks everyone...footymum

A private carpark that is accessible to the public - like a supermarket counts as a public road

well not just him, the driving school he worked for
do you k now of any private land or car parks. These should be areas where access to public is denied so you would have to have land owners permission.

Your local industrial estate or supermarket carpark is NOT private land, in case he tries to argue otherwise

tbh i would say he should be patient, especially with way the weather is at the moment

Wow...how quick are you out there in Answerbank land...brilliant response! We live in North West Manchester area so happy to find anyone with some land he can tootle about on...take your point about the weather though...perhaps he'll just be content to wash and polish it for a couple of months!
and dont forget that it would need insuring and taxing just so that his dad can drive it to and from any private land that you may find.
Unless you already know someone with land you may find it a difficult search too
When the daughter was 16 her dad taught her to drive at the local skid pan....
oh boy wait till you get the insurance quote for him, on tv Friday morning, one lad had been quoted £3,000.
