Can anyone tell me how long 6 penalty points stay on your licence, my son got these in jan 2006 for having no insurance and a fine of £60 for no licence, he passed his test dec 2007 and i would guess that dec 07 would be the date the points started from, but i don't know when they would lapse and what you need to do.

Penalty points count for 'totting up' purposes for 3 years FROM THE DATE OF CONVICTION but they can't be removed from a licence until 4 years has expired. (There are a few offences where that period is extended to 11 years, but that doesn't apply to your son's 'IN10' endorsement).

The procedure for getting expired points removed from a licence is explained here:

Thanks Buenchico for your reply, i was sure i saw LC10 is this different to IN10 and if so what is this
While 'LC10' isn't specifically mentioned here, 'LC' penalty points have to remain on a licence (where one exists!) for 4 years (but from the date of the offence, rather than that of conviction):

Thanks
I believe LC10 (Driving without a licence) was incorporated into LC20 (Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence) with effect from July 1992.
