Please could anyone clarify the law with regard to children sitting in car seats? My two grandchildren , aged 4 and 6, are going to be with us over Christmas. We have car seats, one of which will detach to become a booster seat. Where they live in California the 6-year-old needs only to be on a booster seat, but I think he will have to be on a full child car seat in England won't he? If so his parents will have to start getting him used to the idea, which he won't like.... Many thanks.

you need to know their weight (kilos preferably)
The 4yr old will need a full car seat, the 6yr old should be ok with a booster seat unless he is exceptionally small for his age. Try googling child car seats for the exact law on this.

Many thanks, both of you. Have emailed son to ask him about the elder grandson's weight (I haven't seem them for 18 months, so have no idea). I googled as you suggested, and that info is very helpful. I think I may actually have been confusing 'booster seat' and 'booster cushion', and we probably have the right ones already; but I will check. Thanks again.
take a look here for the law on this

Thank you, hawkwalk. I'll have to wait until I hear about his current weight, but I think I understand the situation now.
