MPs Expenses: Auditor refuses to sign off claims, New system to be scrapped
The new MPs' expenses body could be scrapped, says Cameron.
// The news comes after Prime Minister David Cameron criticised the system run by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority for not being family friendly enough.
He said: “The Prime Minister recognises there have been a lot of concerns from all parties about the way the system is operating. //

This the day after the Auditor refused to sign off £14 million of claims.
// MPs’ expenses: millions of pounds of improper claims after the expenses scandal
MPs continued to abuse their taxpayer-funded allowances by submitting millions of pounds worth of improper claims in the year following the expenses scandal, the national auditor disclosed yesterday.
The extent of the misuse has led the National Audit Office (NAO) to refuse to sign off the House of Commons’ accounts for the first time in history, after one in four claims were found to be lacking the proper documentation to back them up.
In an indictment of the discredited Commons fees office, Amyas Morse, the Auditor General, disclosed that £14 million of taxpayers’ money was paid out on expenses which could not be properly accounted for. //

Given the public outcry, The Telegraph revelations, the NAOs recent refusal to sign off on the expense claims, and ongoing criminal proceedings against discredited former ministers and the like, those MPs most outspoken against the new rules could be likened to spoilt brats stamping their feet and crying "no fair".
Its possible that Cameron was being quoted out of context with this comment about scrapping the system next year - I think he was talking about certain very specific elements of the rules, governing the transport of the MPs kids to and from the constituency etc - hence the comment about rules not being "family friendly".
