My son works in a hotel kitchen and as you would expect at this time of year has no hours available to earn money and has nt yet been made aware of when he will next be working.
As he is not unemployed does he have any options available to him in terms of benefits or allowances?

Thanks.

what is his contract? Is he on 0 hours?
Yes, my sister was in almost the same predicament when her OH passed away
She was off for a bereavement period of 6 months or so and she was able to claim benefits - no sure what ones so I would get your son to call your local Job Centre (or what ever they are called now)
has he been laid off...or just not working at the moment but still has job technically?

he still has the job but whereas in the summer he was totting up many hours now its off-season there is nothing to speak of.
when I was in benefit we took claims that were called TS...Temporary stop claimants..this usually applied to builders or fishermen who could not work because of weather..this may apply to your son..tell him to get to Job Centre to ask..has been a while since I was working there may have changed..no harm in asking !
