Any suggestions on how to trace someone?

My brother in law did a load of building work for a hotelier. She has sold the hotel and left town, without paying him (or any of her staff their final months wages).
Any sleuths out there can give any tips?

Can I just add he has already asked the new hotel owners (who don't know where she went to) and checked with all the local solicitors to see if they did the conveyancing but he's drawn a blank.

How did new owners find out about sale ?
Has he contacted the Commercial Estates in the area ?
They may be able to give details of conveyancing solicitor....

if she had a registered company, you can check the details at company house, will give you names and addresses of the directors, might give you a starting point (you have to pay a £1 for each doc you access)

Brilliant jack - we never thought about asking who the sale was through. The big problem is going to be getting anyone to reveal her forwarding address. She sold the hotel for over £500K (her husband had just died so she had his life insurances and his RAF pension coming to her) and she has brought my brother in law to the edge of bankrupcy

If she has left town without paying why can he not get the police involved. Leave it to them to find her.

You could type a short letter to her solicitors (being a little vague as to what 'exactly' it is that you wish to say) put it in a stamped envelope and ask the Estate Agent to forward it to the Solicitor.........
