Photos of people as children in films...

When there are photos of actors shown in films/TV programmes as children, are these actually photos of the actors as children, taken from the family album?

Probably a bit of both depending on the availability of suitable photos.

I'm sure a Director will ask a star for photos to use in the film/TV programme. If a photo is very specific to a drama, then maybe a photo session with young actors/models will be arranged.

One example is Morgan Freemans character in the Shawshank Redemption. Photo's of him as a younger man are actually freemans younger brother. I imagine they can use younger family members quite often.
