I watched the Panorama Programme last night which concentrated on Sheffield and London. The shortage of Social housing stems from the Thatcher era when the right to buy was introduced and very little social replacement housing has been built to replace the houses 'lost'. The waiting list for a house these days in some areas is high and genuine applicants are struggling to get suitable property allocated by their local Council.
Abuse of the system exits as was apparent in last nights Documentary.

This programme made me so angry too! If you can afford to pay rent then you should be made to leave your Council Property!! Makes people lazy, get off your arse & work for a place to live, why must we pay for people to live in Council House who can afford to rent one themselves!!! They are there to help REAL people in need!!
