Seve Ballesteros..

..I was unable to add to the tributes at the week-end but being a club official I would like to comment.
Seve was an inspiration to a generation. He lit the game up with skill, ability and charisma, always playing with a smile on his face and enjoying what he did. When I first started taking the game seriously, I bought my first set of clubs, Slazenger. They were endorsed by Seve and had his autograph moulded into the backs of the irons. They don't do that now so much. Players are sponsored by various manufacturers who use their equipment. I still have the full set, and still use the wedge and sand-iron from them. I always tried to copy his short game, which was fantastic and enabled him to return some great scores.
I don't think we will see a player like him again and I'm glad I had the chance to see him play. RIP Seve. You will be greatly missed.

But what about his notorious bad temper and his stingyness with his caddies?

I'm not a golfer, and don't particularly like or watch golf. I did used to work behind the bar of a golf club once, but that is quite irrelevant.
However, I have to say that I was certainly aware of Seve Ballesteros, and he was a true gentleman, the likes of which are fast fading along with the Henry Coopers of this world.
