New freeview recorder acting up

I bought a freeview recorder about a week ago and it was fine for about 3 days but then the picture started jumping and freezing. I retuned it and everything went back to normal for a day but now it's started to jump occasionaly and pixolate occasionaly. I dont think it's my aerial as the old set top box works fine when the new recorder kicks off. does anyone have any idea why this is happening, will it get better or worse. Would my aerial be better outside instead of in the loft?

digital signals need a rooftop aerial unless your within sight of a transmitter,
the symptoms do look like a poor signal your getting, somewhere in your manual it will tell you how to check on signal strength in your recorder,
good news is that when the analogue is switched of in your area the present digital signal will increase in output significantly,

tuners in digital boxes vary in quality some good some not so good. check all your aerial plugs for their wiring connections if there not the sealed type

Deggers, I think the analogue signal is off in our area (Granada). I've tried to find the signal strength but there doesn't seem to be anything on the menu and no mention in the manual. The old box gives a ''good'' rating. I think I will put the aerial on the roof if this improves reception.

My digital signal did not increase significantly Deggers, Before analogue was switched off I got a signal strength on digital of 9 or 10 and now the analogue signal has gone the strength/quality is 6 or 7
