Perhaps the Ed should arrange a Poll in respect of what ABers feel about the limitations which are placed upon the Police when it comes to dealing with riots. I feel sure the results would be worthwhile for passing forward to the Prime Minister.

I am thinking of 'yes/no' questions such as:-

1) Should Water Cannons be used.
2)Should Rubber Bullets be used.
3)Should CS gas be used.
4)Should the Military be deployed to assist the Police.
Etc,etc.

You appear to be missing "Decapitation" which would be my choice.

The problem, as I see it, is whilst on one occasion the use of certain equipment may seem a good idea, authorities given an inch can eventually opt to take the mile. Repressive regimes tend to use such brute force and so one should be wary of sanctioning it. That said, IMO since the police were ineffective at being on the ground and stopping it, there is a case for military action, no messing about, to nip opportunist looters and vandalism in the bud.
YES TO ALL
Yes to all.
CS gas isn't selective. It chokes the innocent as well as the guilty.
Yes (especially if I can stay anonymous. I don't want any repercussions or accusations of causing a riot>)
YES TO ALL
no one in their right mind would be on the street when this is all kicking off, those fools taking pictures, and getting in the way of the police are just stupid.
military deployment would be premature.
we have not yet declared a national state of emergency.
we are only talking about 100s in isolated groups, not thousands.

there is definitely a need for police to commence zero tolerance. maybe a 5 minute warning and then anyone who is still there can be duffed up by the poice and their appeal to the ipcc disgregarded.

no doubt when this is all blown over, cameron will tell us 'there will be an inquiry, and lessons will be learnt'.
Yes
No real ones should be used
yes
yes
Good idea. It'll be along shortly (probably just after lunch).

All the best.
