Just seen the pics of 'bring back..' on MSN. My 3 favourites of ones shown, were Ivor the engine, Pipkins (ran home from school lunchtime to watch it-alwys missed 3 mins, but no video back then-loved it) and Metal Mickey-also enjoyed Grange Hill and Press Gang. Was Pipkins on nationwide? It was strong Birmingham accents, and back then programmes were local (ATV were 1st area to show both Sullivans and sons and daughters-read that at the time). I liked Topov the monkey and the greedy pig.Couldn't stand Hartly the hare. Does anyone else have fond memories of Pipkins? Also article says bring them back-no thanks- Bill+Ben etc were ruined when remade-repeats,yes
Bill and Ben, were favourites, looby loo, Andy Pandy, muffin the mule, Blue Peter, sticky back plastic, and this is one i made earlier, brings back lots of good memories, The wonderful crackerjack, and later in life discovered The Clangers, quite surreal, and Fraggle Rock, laugh a minute Shaun the Sheep and now Horrible Histories, best thing on telly by miles.
Forgotton about Crackerjack-loved Fridays, but it has dated-bought nostalgia video when son was young, and he didn't like it, yet he loved old bill and ben, bagpuss and Mr Benn on video
In 1972, the ITV network expanded its daytime broadcasting hours and the Independent Broadcasting Authority commissioned four of the main ITV companies to each provide a series of interest to pre-schoolers [for nationwide broadcast], as an alternative to the successful US import Sesame Street. From this commission Thames Television came up with Rainbow, Yorkshire with Mister Trimble, Granada with Hickory House, while ATV’s contribution would be Inigo Pipkin.
pipkins was a bit before my time but I remember button moon, bod, metal mickey, grange hill, I used to like watching sons and daughters and the young doctors!
I saw Muffin and also The Woodentops on vidoe when about 16-Aunt bought it for her 4 year old-I liked the Woodentops, despite my age,I must have only just missed it, as briefly remember Andy Pandy
I used to like Camberwick Green and it`s offshoot - Trumpton (or was it the other way round)? Sage the Owl in The Herbs was a favourite and I remember a programme about the riverbank (tales from the riverbank)? that had really nice intro music.
I remember reading a funny piece about the reason the BBC was in financial trouble was all the free band concerts on Trumpton, and they should start charging!
I used to like the way on Camberwick Green ( I think?) all the factory workers would come out and go straight to the bandstand for a bit of a dance....could just imagine my dad doing that!
Sooty is back soon-did you see he hurt Paul Daniels in last weeks paper-saw it on newstand-lol. Loved the herbs, amd trumpton and Candlerwick Green and (obviously?) Bagpuss
