Should abortion be compulsory in teenage pregnancies?

I'm watching question time and they have been talking about the rates of teenage pregnancy and how much of an issue it is. I'm not saying compulsory abortion is right etc, just wondered if could be considered? X

no. My mum was married at 18 and pregnant at 19. i would hate to think my siuster wouldn't exist if there was that policy

No, that's ridiculous. In OH's family, we marry young, have our children young, my neice had two of her children before she was out of her teens. They weren't accidents, but they still count in the teenage pregnancy statistics. Not possible.

I dont agree with it, please don't get me wrong. It just came into my head watching this and thinking of Japan or China, can't remember which one which used murder as a way of controlling population x

No, but teach children not just about sex, but relationships, and then as i have seen, give them a realistic doll, sure there is a better word, for a few days, week, and then see if that doesn't change most minds of children so young, that its a huge responsibility having and looking after a baby.

China restricted families to one child in the past because of their spiralling population. You're using the term "murder" roxie, not everyone believes that very early termination is murder. Not saying I do or don't, but that's an inflammatory expression, IMO.

No. "teenage" refers to 13 to 19 and so to make abortion compulsory has a far ranging impact. Abortion should not be used as a means of contraceptive imo.

If like bednobs says her parents were married I would say no. It depends very much on the situation. If a very young girl was a victim of rape perhaps yes. I have heard that it is considered for mentally disturbed patients and those with Downs syndrome

Many countries have done that, you may be thinking of China, where they were or did have a policy of one child per family, not sure if that's the way to go either.

the reason i mentioned that, because if the child gets a bit older but then dies, the parents might be too old to have another.

Haven't the Chinese been accused of murdering a daughter when a son would be more benefical financially or was that India because of the dowry a poor family would not have been able to give?

It's been known in the Indian subcontinent, that daughters were abandoned in the past, because only the boys would bring in income, and daughters' dowries are cripplingly expensive. I don't know that it happens nowadays.
