The point i was trying (Obviously badly) to make was that we have a gun ban here, but it doesn't stop loons from getting their mitts on them does it? So why bother having one in the US?

The killers at Hungerford and Dunblane had legally held weapons. If there was a ban here they couldn't have murdered so many innocent people.

I'm not sure that they could have found a supply of illegal weapons. The Dunblane killer was something of an oddball under suspicion of paedophilia. Michael Ryan in Hungerford might have found problems in finding a source for illegal weapons, too.

There is not a hope in hell of guns being banned in America, It's so ingrained into them that they have the right to bear arms that they see it as a fundamental part of their freedom. Also as most states don't require guns to be registered there is no record of who has a gun and who doesn't so banning guns would be unenforceable
