Adobe Reader X (10.1.1)

To a lay man or perhaps I am just a nerd !!
What are the benefits of down loading Adobe Reader x (10.1.1)
Is there anything out there that I may have!! which does the same thing?
Sorry to be vague but I have found in the past that I have had 2 sites doing the same thing McAfee and AVG and this slows everything down

Adobe Reader is for reading pdf files. This is a popular format for sending documents by e-mail, and most user-manuals are available as downloadable pdfs.

An alternative to Adobe Reader is Foxit Reader.

dump the heavily laden adobe and install "foxit reader" free and easier to use

Adobe is bloated (specially X) and has services running that you don't need. I support the other two posts for foxit.
