Eastenders divorce

Mas 'divorced' Zainab in Eastenders by saying ' I divorce you' 3 times. Is this how it's done in their religion/laws? Is it not legalised in any form? Hm, imagine if everyone could do that - I think would have been divorced hundreds of times!!
