Were we made of stronger stuff in days gone by?
I like this one, today they send them home if the heating goes off.

I'd love to argue that point Steve, 'cus I don't think I'm a wimp, but when I compare myself... or anyone, to the only person I know well from those times, my 88 year old grandad who runs 20 miles with cancer in every bone in his body, I'll back away from that argument!
You're as tough as you need to be, it's the hard work and resourcefulness of you oldies that has given us kids the cushy life!! You've only yourselves to blame!!

<<there would be millions of deaf claims being issued to the luftwaffe & such >>
why be so selective steve?
How useless would today's youngsters have been in 1914-18?
When asked to hurl themselves in their thousands at inpenetrable enemy machine gun fire they would have asked awkward, arsey questions such as 'what for?' and 'are you stupid?'
'what was the point of the 50 yards of mud we captured last week at the cost of 100,000 of our mates' lives'.
And if we sent them home afterwards back to their insanitary slums and the dole queue they'd be up in arms protesting about those of us who got rich selling munitions and dealing in the financial markets.
Yes <today's society> would be useless at being exploited like that.
